If you have a cracked, damaged, badly decayed, discolored, or broken tooth, you may be a candidate for a CEREC® one-visit crown. At Haid Dental, we can use our in-house CEREC® machine to custom-make a crown for you in one visit.
What is a CEREC® One-Visit Crown?
CEREC® stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It’s an in-office computer-assisted design and manufacture system that makes it possible for our team to complete the full process of dental restoration in one visit. This includes designing, crafting, and placing your crown all in the same visit. Typically, the process of getting a crown requires at least 2 visits to the dentist: one to prepare the tooth and take an impression to send to a lab, one to place the crown once it arrives from the lab, and potentially one to check that everything is working how it should be following placement of the crown. With the CEREC® same day crown system, all this can be cut down to a single, convenient visit.
What is the process of getting a crown?
Your dentist will begin by numbing your mouth with local anesthetic and preparing the tooth by slightly reshaping it. This allows room for the crown to fit over your existing tooth. Then, the dentist will use the CEREC® system to take a precise impression of your tooth. The CEREC® system will then begin crafting your crown. Once this process is complete, the dentist will permanently fit the crown over your existing tooth by using a cement that will set the tooth in place. One the cement has set, you’re ready to go with your newly restored smile!
How long will my crown last?
Crowns can last between 5 and 15 years, but will generally make it at least 10 years with good dental hygiene practices. Dental crowns should be cared for like any of your other teeth-- daily brushing and flossing will help the crown last throughout the years. Regular visits to your dentist will ensure that your crown is still in good shape, and will help you know when it’s time for a replacement.
